Laurie Johnston
The Saskatoon Academy of Irish Dance (SAID) is run by Laurie Johnston, T.C.R.G. Laurie began dancing at the age of six, and competed successfully at the regional and national level for twelve years before retiring to teach. Laurie competed in Open Championships, the highest level of competition, and at the North American Nationals in 1991, Laurie placed 12th out of approximately 120 girls.
Laurie has enjoyed performing with many Canadian talents, such as Natalie MacMaster, The Irish Rovers, and Ashley MacIsaac and with International talents such as the Chieftains and Colin Dunne, star of Riverdance.
In 2003, after traveling to Boston, MA and Los Angeles, CA for examinations, Laurie successfully attained the T.C.R.G. certification. Laurie is a member of An Coimisiun le Rinci Gaelacha, the North American Irish Dance Teachers Association, and the Western Canadian Irish Dance Teachers Association.
In addition to dancing, Laurie enjoys relaxing at home with her two young children: son, Connor, and daughter, Kieva.
Kayley Hawryliw
Kayley has been a student of the Saskatoon Academy of Irish Dance since the beginning in 1999. She has a wonderful way with children and assists Laurie in Beginner and Novice classes.
Kayley is a teacher's assistant in a Preschool class, and will be getting married in May, 2010! Congratulations!
